Materials: 5 (6, 6, 7, 7) skeins FABULOUS FELINES – color 1102 (Fidgesaurus Rex) # 10 ½ needles – 16" and 29" circular, and double-pointed needles (or size needle to obtain gauge) 2 stitch markers 1 coilless pin marker 2 stitch holders
Gauge: 13.5 sts and 18 rounds over St st = 4"; 12.5 sts and 20 rounds over Ridge Pattern = 4"
Pattern Stitch: Ridged Pattern (worked in the round) Rounds 1, 2, 3 and 4 – Knit. Round 5 – Purl. Repeat these 5 rounds. Ridged Pattern (worked back and forth with odd numbered rows on wrong side, and even numbered rows on the right side) Rows 1 and 3 – Purl. Rows 2, 4 and 5 – Knit. Rows 6 and 8 – Knit. Rows 7, 9 and 10 – Purl. Repeat these 10 rows.
Notes: This pullover is begun by working the right sleeve in the round to the underarm, dividing to work the upper body back and forth, then joining to work the left sleeve in the round to the cuff. Stitches for the lower half of the body are picked up along the open edge of the yoke, and worked in the round to the bottom edge.
Right Sleeve: Using short circular needle, cast on 29 (33, 36, 39, 42) sts. Knit 1 row but do not turn. Change to double-pointed needles. Place marker for beginning of round. Join to work in the round, making sure sts are not twisted. (Purl 1 round, knit 1 round) 2 times. Knit 2 rounds, *purl 1 round, knit 4 rounds; repeat from * for Ridge Pattern. AT THE SAME TIME, increase 1 st each end every 6 (7, 7, 8, 7) rounds 11 (9, 9, 8, 8) times – 51 (51, 54, 55, 58) sts. Change to short circular needle when enough sts have been increased. Continue even until sleeve measures 15.5 (15.5, 14.5, 14.5, 13.5)", end with a purl round. Place marker at center of row.
Yoke: Begin working back and forth with a wrong side row. Continue in pattern as established and inc 1 st each end of the first row – 53 (53, 56, 57, 60) sts. When yoke measures 1", increase 1 st on both sides of center marker – 55 (55, 58, 59, 62) sts. Work even until yoke measures 5 (5.75, 6.75, 7.5, 8.5)" from where work was divided, end with a right side row.
Neck: Work 26 (26, 28, 28, 30) sts, BO 6 sts for neck, work remaining 23 (23, 24, 25, 26) sts – 23 (23, 24, 25, 26) sts for front and 26 (26, 28, 28, 30) sts for back. Each section will now be worked separately to the other side of the neck. Place back on holder.
Front Neck: Continue in pattern and decrease 1 st at neck edge every row 17 (18, 18, 19, 19) times – 6 (5, 6, 6, 7) sts remain. Work 1 row even. Increase 1 st at neck edge every row 17 (18, 18, 19, 19) times – 23 (23, 24, 25, 26) sts. Work should end with a right side row. Place front on holder.
Back: Attach new yarn with right side facing. Continue in pattern and decrease 1 st at the beginning of next right side row – 25 (25, 27, 27, 29) sts. Work 30 (32, 32, 34, 34) rows even -- back should measure about 6.5 (7, 7, 7.5, 7.5)" from neck division. Increase 1 st at neck edge on next row – 26 (26, 28, 28, 30) sts. Work 1 row even. The last row should be the same as the last row of the front.
Return front to needles. With wrong side facing, work back in next pattern row, cast on 6 sts, then work front – 55 (55, 58, 59, 62) sts. Place marker at center of row. Work even for 4 (4.75, 5.75, 6.5, 7.5)". Next row – Decrease 1 st on both sides of center marker – 53 (53, 56, 57, 60) sts. Work even until yoke measures 5 (5.75, 6.75, 7.5, 8.5)" from where work was rejoined, end with a row 4 or 9 of repeat and decrease 1 st at each end of last row – 51 (51, 54, 55, 58) sts.
Left Sleeve: Join to work in the round again, mark beginning of round. Continue pattern and reverse the shaping – 29 (33, 36, 39, 42) sts. End with 2 knit rounds after the last purl round. (Purl 1 round. Knit 1 round) 2 times. BO purlwise.
Lower Body: With longer circular needle and right side facing, pick up 120 (130, 148, 160, 174) sts along lower edge of body from left sleeve across front, then back. Place markers at center of underarms for beginning and center of round. Join to work in the round. Knit 3 (4, 3, 3, 5) rounds. Next round -- k2tog, knit to center marker, ssk, knit to end – 118 (128, 146, 158, 172) sts. Knit 3 (4, 3, 4, 5) rounds. Next round – knit to 2 sts before center marker, ssk, knit to last 2 sts, k2tog – 116 (126, 144, 156, 170) sts. Continue decreasing every 6 rounds 0 (0, 0, 0, 4) times, every 5 rounds 0 (5, 0, 0, 0) times, every 4 rounds 7 (0, 6, 8, 0) times, then every 3 rounds 0 (0, 2, 0, 0) times – 102 (116, 128, 140, 162) sts. Knit 3 (5, 2, 2, 5) rounds. Lower body should measure about 7.75 (8.25, 8.25, 8.75, 8.75)" from pickup round. Next round – purl to 2 sts before center marker, p2tog, purl to last 2 sts, p2tog – 100 (114, 126, 138, 160) sts. Knit 1 round. Purl 1 round. Knit 1 round. BO purlwise.
Neckband: With longer circular needle and right side facing, begin at bottom of front neck opening and pick up 20 (21, 21, 22, 22) sts along shaped edge of right front, 6 sts along bound-off sts, 23, (25, 25, 27, 27) sts along back neck edge, 6 sts along cast-on sts, then 20 (21, 21, 22, 22) sts along shaped edge of left front – 75 (79, 79, 83, 83) sts. Place marker for beginning of round. Join to work in the round. Purl 1 round. Knit 1 round. BO purlwise. Lightly block sweater.
