Materials:
Jitterbug SocksColinette Jitterbug Yarn, 1 skein (Color shown: Jewel)
US #3 Double-Pointed Needles
(or size to obtain gauge)

Tapestry Needle

Gauge: 13 sts & 38 rows = 4” x 4” square

Leg:
Cast on 48 stitches. Be careful not to twist the stitches because you’ll be knitting in the round. Divide stitches onto 3 needles with 16 stitches on each needle.
Knit 2, purl 2 until ribbed leg measures 6”

Heel:
Knit 12 (heel). Place next 24 stitches on one needle. Place remaining 12 stitches with first 12 heel stitches.
Row 1: (wrong side) slip1, purl to end of row (You are no longer knitting in the round.)
Row 2: sl1, knit to end of row. Repeat the last 2 rows until 22 total rows are completed.

To Turn Heel:

  • Row 1: (wrong side) purl14, purl2together, purl 1, turn
  • Row 2: slip1, knit 5, k2togbl, k1, turn
  • Row 3: sl1, purl 6, p 2tog, p1, turn
  • Row 4: slip1, knit 7, k2togbl, k1, turn
  • Row 5: sl1, purl 8, p 2tog, p1, turn
  • Row 6: slip1, knit 9, k2togbl, k1, turn
  • Row 7: sl1, purl 10, p 2tog, p1, turn
  • Row 8: slip1, knit 11, k2togbl, k1, turn
  • Row 9: sl1, purl 12, p 2tog, p1, turn
  • Row 10: sl1, k12, k2togbl

 

You should now have 14 stitches on the needle.


Gusset:
Working from right side, pick up and knit 12 stitches along right side of heel with extra needle.
With another needle, knit 24 instep stitches. With another needle, pick up and knit 12 stitches up the other side of the heel. Continue to knit 7 stitches from heel stitches. Place remaining 7 stitches on the first needle. Needles should now contain 19, 24, 19 stitches. You will now return to knitting in the round.

Knit 1 round
Decrease next round
Needle 1: knit to last 3 stitches, knit 2 together, knit 1
Needle 2: knit 2 stitches, purl 2 stitches until you reach Needle 3. (This is to continue the     ribbing pattern)
Needle 3: knit 1, knit 2 together, knit to end of round.
Continue until 12 stitches remain on Needles 1 and 3.

Foot:
Needle 1: knit all stitches; Needle 2: knit 2, purl 2 to maintain ribbing; Needle 3, knit all stitches
Continue these instructions until sock measures 3” from finished length

Toe:
Next round is Decrease round:

  • Needle 1: knit to last 3 stitches, knit 2 together, knit 1
  • Needle 2: knit 1, knit 2 togtbl, knit to last 3 stitches, knit 2 together, knit 1
  • Needle 3: knit 1, knit 2 togtbl, knit to end of round

Knit Decrease round 2 times
You should now have 4 stitches on Needle 1, 8 stitches on Needle 2, 4 stitches on Needle 3

 

Close the Toe:
Knit 4 stitches from Needle 1 to Needle 3
Use Kitchener Stitch to weave 8 stitches on Needle 3 with 8 stitches on Needle 2
